Former South Carolina Gov. and UN ambassador Nikki Haley has received two important endorsements from Iowa. Her campaign shared she had gained the confidence of former Iowa State representative Mary Ann Hanusa and Marlys Popma, the former Republican Party of Iowa executive director.
Popma’s endorsement of Haley was impromptu. She attended a town hall in Newton where Haley was taking questions, and decided to lend her support. "I was an undecided voter when I walked in here today, and I am no longer an undecided voter. And I just want to tell Nikki that I wholeheartedly support you,” Popma said during the event amid loud applause by the crowd.
Popma also told the attendees to not be bothered by poll results. "Don’t look at the polls. Don’t look at what the media is telling you. Look at what you’ve heard today. And be bold and don’t be afraid to support the person you want to support because you think that somebody else is going to win. Because that’s how we lose."
Haley thanked Popma for her endorsement. “God bless you. I appreciate that,” she said. As per a recent poll, Haley is the third choice for second place in the presidential primary elections. While Trump is the clear frontrunner among GOP voters, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be the second choice of voters for the GOP nomination.
Hanusa, in an authored statement provided to a website said Haley “is the leader that America needs at this critical time in our nation’s history.”
Her statement further read, “Nikki Haley’s experience and proven record of focused leadership, as a state legislator, governor and UN ambassador, will restore our country and lift all Americans. We need a leader who believes that our nation’s best days are still ahead of us.”
