The Sikh community in New Jersey is preparing for a grand celebration of the 555th Gurpurab, a festival that marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, scheduled for Nov. 9.

The event, titled "Oneness: A Light for Humanity," will take place at the Prudential Hall, New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Newark, New Jersey. It aims to promote the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, particularly the principles of unity, equality, and social justice.

Themed "Ek Onkar" (Oneness), the event seeks to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to celebrate shared values. The celebration will feature cultural performances, panel discussions, and community activities designed to foster understanding and connection.

"Hosting the event at NJPAC allows us to spread the message of Oneness in a vibrant, diverse community and present it in an immersive way," an organizer stated. "We chose this platform to successfully showcase and convey the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to a wider audience, starting with a place that is close to our hearts."

Notable figures such as Harshdeep Kaur, Hargun Kaur, and artist Vilas Nayak are expected to make appearances, along with prominent Sikh kirtani renowned for their soulful renditions of Gurbani. The event is open to the public, with tickets available on Ticketmaster starting September 19.

As part of the initiative, proceeds from ticket sales will go to the "Let’s Share a Meal" campaign, which aims to serve nearly 15,000 meals to the homeless. The organizers emphasize the importance of introducing Sikh teachings to younger generations and fostering pride and empowerment through community service.
