In a groundbreaking display of interfaith unity, Jewish organisation Temple Beth Shalom and hindu organisation Namaste Global came together to host a unique Havadallah Diwali celebration in New Jersey.
The event blended traditions intergrating the Jewish Havadallah ritual, marking the end of Shabbat, with the Hindu festival of Diwali, offering an example of how diverse religious practices can unite communities through shared values of respect and understanding.
The celebration featured prayers, light ceremonies, and cultural performances, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage with and learn from one another’s faiths. It reinforced the idea that despite differences in customs, universal values of love, community, and respect bring people together.
Rabbi Cohen of Temple Beth Shalom played a pivotal role in organizing the event along with Falguni Pandya of Namaste Global. “The collaboration is a testament to her vision of a community where individuals from different backgrounds can come together, share their stories, and build lasting relationships,” Pandya said.
The success of the Havadallah Diwali celebration has sparked interest in similar interfaith initiatives across New Jersey, inspiring greater unity in an increasingly multicultural society.
