‘Not interested in being VP,’ says Nikki Haley
About 48 percent of likely Republican caucus goers have chosen Trump as their first choice for president.

Indian-American GOP Presidential candidate Nikki Haley has made it clear that she is not seeking the role of Vice President of the United States. Instead, she has expressed her ambition to compete and secure the position of President, emphasizing her goal to become the next leader of the country.
Haley's statements come ahead of the Iowa caucuses scheduled for January 15. It marks the official commencement of the extensive process through which both the Republicans and Democrats select their nominees for the presidential election on November 5.
“I don’t play for a second. I’ve never played for a second. I’m not going to start now,” said the 51-year-old former US ambassador to the UN, in a CBS News interview.
“I’m not interested in being vice president. I’m running to be president, and I’m running to win, and we will,” the former South Carolina governor said in response to a question about some voters’ preferring her as a vice president rather than the president.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump, a prominent figure among Republican candidates, continues to hold a significant lead over Haley, believed to be his closest competitor.
About 48 percent of likely Republican caucus goers have chosen Trump as their first choice for president, as per the most recent Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll. There has been a minor decrease from the 51 percent reported in December.
Haley, the only woman candidate in the race, gained support, with 20 percent favoring her - a four percent increase. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has moved to third place with 16 percent, experiencing a decline in support.
When questioned further about a message for voters supporting her for vice president but are still endorsing Trump, Haley said, “Well, I think look, if you want four more years of chaos, that’s what you’re gonna get. But what’s more concerning is, you look at those head-to-head polls, Trump and Biden are pretty much even. It’s going to be a nail-biter of an election. We’re going to be holding our breath I don’t want a President Kamala Harris.”
