NY Consulate hosts meeting with new CG Binaya Pradhan

A total of 50 community representatives from six states participated in the meeting

The Indian Consulate in New York recently convened a gathering of prominent community organizations from the Northeast Region of the United States for an interactive session with the newly appointed Indian Consul General, Binaya Srikanth Pradhan, held at the Indian Consulate earlier this week.

A total of 50 community representatives from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Ohio participated in the meeting. Among the attendees were representatives from various organizations and their chapters such as the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO, the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), Association of Indian America (AIA), Asian Indian American of Central Pennsylvania (AIACPA), Federation of Malayalee Association of North America (FOMA), Uttar Pradesh Association of America, Tamil Sangam, Telugu Association of North America (TANA), Telegu Literary and Cultural Association (TLCA), Bihar Jharkhand Association, Oriya Society, Indo American Press Club, Hindu Center, and several other service organizations including Team Aid.

The meeting commenced with welcome remarks from Deputy Consul General Dr. Varun Jeph, who then introduced Consul General Pradhan. Subsequently, representatives from various organizations were given the opportunity to speak about their respective organizations, address community issues, and explore potential avenues for collaboration with the Consulate.

Following inputs from all invitees, Consul General Pradhan expressed gratitude to the community groups for their significant efforts in assisting the consulate and for their valuable contributions to enhancing US-India relations.

“If there is a need for a visa camp for passport, OCI or other consular services, the Consulate will come to the community group if there are enough people in need; Consulate wants to be connected with students coming from India, especially in the first year to help them out; for any emergencies, the Consulate is there to help out; Consulate would like to connect to University student leaders,” Pradhan said.

CG Pradhan also urged the community to vote and participate in local politics, stated that the Consul General and Deputy Consul General will attend local community events if invited in advance. He concluded his speech by inviting the community to give their feedback to the Consulate over any issue that might help them improve their service.

Heads of several national and umbrella organizations who attended the meeting included GOPIO chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham and president Lal Motwani, FIA NY/NJ/CT president Dr. Avinash Gupta, AIA president Gobind Munjal, FIA Columbus president Sriram Menneni, AIAPCA founder/chair Deep Gupta and FOMA president Dr. Jacob Thomas.
