Odisha to showcase culture and innovation at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2025, organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, will be held in Bhubaneswar from January 8-10, celebrating the Indian diaspora's significant contributions to India's growth.

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention will take place from Jan. 8 to Jan. 10,  in Odisha celebrating the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India's progress. Over 3,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the event, which combines heritage, innovation, and collaboration.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the convention on Jan. 9, while President Droupadi Murmu will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards on Jan. 10. Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad and Tobago will serve as the chief guest for the event.

Organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the convention themed, "Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat" emphasizes the vital role of the Indian diaspora, which contributed US$120 billion in remittances in 2023, a figure projected to rise to US$129 billion by 2025.

The diaspora's contributions extend beyond remittances to entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing, and social impact. Acting as cultural ambassadors, they strengthen global connections, foster innovation, and drive India's growth.

Highlights of the event

The PBD convention aims to go beyond celebrations by providing a platform for tangible outcomes. Local entrepreneurs and SMEs will connect with global counterparts to exchange expertise and explore opportunities. Aspiring entrepreneurs will gain mentorship and insights from Indian-origin industry leaders.

The event underscores Odisha’s cultural and industrial potential, reinforcing its position as a hub for global collaboration and investment. Delegates at the event will also explore Odisha’s cultural treasures, such as the Puri Jagannath Temple and Dhauli Ashokan relics, showcasing the state’s immense tourism potential.

With a 482-km coastline strategically facing Southeast Asia, Odisha offers significant investment opportunities in tourism, infrastructure, port development, and green energy.

Bhubaneswar has undergone a cultural transformation for the event, blending traditional art installations with state-of-the-art lighting to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The Odisha Government has ensured seamless logistics, with senior officials trained by the Ministry of External Affairs to manage international delegates.

Aligned with India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Purvodaya Mission,’ local authorities, including the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Bhubaneswar Development Authority, and state culture and tourism departments, have organized a series of events to showcase Odisha’s rich heritage. 

Highlights include the Adivasi Mela, Rajarani Music Festival, Mukteshwar Dance Festival, Ekamra Mahotsav, Ekamra Flower Show, International Odissi Dance Festival, and Food Festival.
