OVMA names Deepan Kishore as veterinarian of the year

Dr. Kishore is the first Indian-origin veterinarian to receive this accolade in Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) honored Dr. Deepan Kishore with the Veterinarian of the Year award during its annual conference. 

Dr. Kishore, the first Indian-origin veterinarian to receive this accolade in Oklahoma worked at Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City, where he received mentorship from Dr. Tina Neel and other state veterinarians. 

His achievements at Neel Veterinary Hospital include becoming a specialist diplomate within the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline) and being named one of the ABVP Founding ER Fellows in 2022. He also was instrumental in developing the hospital's cancer research department, providing advanced therapies.

Expressing gratitude for the award, Dr. Kishore said, "It is a great surprise to be presented this award of Veterinarian of the Year. I thank God, my parents, my family, and co-workers for supporting me throughout my life and career."

Dr. Tina Neel, the founder of Neel Veterinary Hospital, nominated Dr. Kishore for the award, in recognition of his abilities and contributions to advancing the hospital's capabilities in research and complex surgical procedures. 

Katy Hawkins, the practice manager at Neel Veterinary Hospital, highlighted Dr. Kishore's dedication to patient care and shared a personal experience where he saved her dog's life through delicate surgery, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring pets live comfortable and pain-free lives.
