Panera Bread, an American fast-food chain, has appointed Santhosh Kumar as its new chief information officer (CIO). He will report to interim CEO Paul Carbone.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Santhosh to the Panera Bread leadership team,” Carbone said, adding,“As the technology landscape continues to evolve, Santhosh brings the right combination of strategic technology expertise, industry experience and proven ability to build high-performing teams that will help drive Panera’s continued success.”
As CIO, Kumar will lead Panera’s technology organization, focusing on the development, integration, and deployment of digital innovations. His role will involve collaborating with the leadership team and franchisees to enhance both the team member and guest experience, a statement said.
“Panera Bread has a strong history as a technology leader in the restaurant industry,” said Kumar, “I am proud to join an already outstanding team and to continue Panera’s relentless focus on creating the most seamless and efficient experience for our team members and guests.”
Kumar, a seasoned IT executive with extensive experience in digital transformation, retail point-of-sale (POS) systems, and electronic payment technologies, has previously served at United Natural Food, Inc. (UNFI), where he spearheaded a multi-year warehouse transformation and cloud modernization initiative.
Prior to UNFI, he spent over two decades at Dunkin’ Brands, including as senior vice president of IT. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in implementing retail and digital innovations, including rolling out new POS and back-office systems and launching Dunkin’s loyalty program.
