Pankaj Advani, an Indian cueist, defeated fellow countryman Sourav Kothari in the finals of the IBSF World Billiards Championship on November 21 to claim his 26th title. In a rematch of their final clash in Kuala Lumpur last year, Advani defeated Kothari, 1000416.
It was in this competition back in 2005 that Advani took home his first global title. Since then, he has won the World Team Billiards Championship once, the "long format" championship nine times, and the "point format" championship eight times.
Advani won the 2023 tournament's semi-final match, defeating fellow Indian cueist Rupesh Shah 900-273. The reigning champion broke for 259 and 176, but Shah only broke for 62 in the 900-up format. In the other half of the draw, Kothari defeated Dhruv Sitwala in his semi-final match, winning 900–756. Sitwala scored 199 and 188, while Kothari had breaks of 223 and 82.
Advani has won 17 global billiards titles, including the IBSF Global Billiards Championship 17 times and the World Team Billiards Championship once. In snooker, he won three IBSF World Snooker Championships, two IBSF World Six-Red Championships and one IBSF World Team Cup and one IBSF World Team Championship. He holds the record for the most IBSF world championships titles.
