Penn Masala to perform at Paris Olympics

Popular acapella group Penn Masala will take the stage at the inaugural India House, curated by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Paris for the Olympics, that is set to begin on July 26.
The group known for their fusion of Eastern and Western musical influences is set to perform on Aug.3. Additionally artists like Bollywood singer Shaan, the Raghu Dixit Project, and Tommy Khosla & Jawari will also perform at the India House during the Paris Olympics.
Who is Penn Masala?
The world’s first and leading South Asian acapella group, was founded in 1996 by students at the University of Pennsylvania. Since then, the group has released twelve full-length albums and was featured on the soundtrack of American Desi.
Penn Masala has performed at the White House on two occasions: first in October 2009, at the invitation of President Barack Obama, and again in June 2023, at the invitation of President Joe Biden during the reception of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The group has also performed at the Indian Filmfare Awards and for prominent figures such as Henry Kissinger, Ban Ki-moon, and Mukesh Ambani.
India House at Paris
India, for the first time, will be setting up an Olympic House during the games to serve as a home away from home for the athletes, fans and a showcase of India to the world.
Conceptualized by Reliance Foundation, the House aims to bring the rich legacy of Indian music to mark a phenomenal celebration of India. In addition to music, it will also showcase craft installations, yoga sessions, and dance performances.
The house promises “an immersion in culture, arts, technology, sports, and gastronomy,” according to the website. “It will also pay an ode to India’s rich arts and culture through its daily programming specially curated by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, marking its global entry,” a news release said.
With tickets priced at $5.5 (€5) each, India House will be set up at Parc de la Villette in Paris from July 27 to Aug. 11, joining 14 other countries, including France, with similar houses.
