In a grand ceremony held in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2023 to celebrate the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi (Varanasi).
The event, organized to further the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat,' marked the integration of two of India's most important and ancient seats of learning.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam seeks to strengthen the emotional and creative bonds between these regions, fostering dialogue and exchange of ideas, a release stated. As part of the inauguration, the PM flagged off the ‘Kanyakumari – Varanasi Tamil Sangamam’ train and launched multi-language and Braille translations of Thirukkural, Manimekalai, and other classic Tamil literature.
In his address to the gathering, Modi emphasized the importance of the event in promoting cultural exchange and expressed confidence that it would strengthen the ties between the two regions. The Prime Minister also celebrated the use of Artificial Intelligence for real-time translation.
Reflecting on India's spiritual consciousness, Modi emphasized that the nation's diversity is rooted in spiritual beliefs. He acknowledged the efforts of historical figures like King Parakram Pandian in preserving the cultural heritage of Kashi and stressed the importance of knowing each other's culture to build trust and rapport.
The ceremony consisted of a cultural program and appreciated the joint initiatives between Banaras Hindu University and IIT Chennai.
