Wang, a respected academic and noted Indophile, is the chief editor of the “Yoga Library” series and has translated seminal Indian texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras of Patanjali into Chinese. His work has reached wide audiences through more than 100 virtual lectures, making ancient Indian wisdom accessible and relatable to Chinese readers.
Modi commended the professor’s dedication to deepening understanding of Indian philosophy through his translations and teachings. Wang’s efforts have played a crucial role in the rising popularity of yoga in China, where it is now embraced as a mainstream practice promoting physical and mental well-being.

Consul General Mathur praised Wang’s “unstinting efforts” in advancing cultural diplomacy, stating that yoga’s resonance with Chinese values like mindfulness and inner balance has created a natural bridge between the two civilizations. “Wang’s contributions exemplify the shared aspirations of India and China to connect through our rich histories and traditions. Yoga’s popularity in China is a testament to its universal appeal and its ability to bring our peoples closer together,” he said.
Notably, Wang had earlier presented his Bhagavad Gita translation to PM Modi during the G20 Summit in Hangzhou in 2016.
The recognition also comes ahead of the 11th International Day of Yoga, which is an initiative by the Indian government to promote global awareness of yoga’s benefits.
