Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his visit to Jammu & Kashmir on February 20, laid the foundation for several development projects worth over US$ 3.857 million  (Rs 32,000 crore) in the fields of education, aviation, roads, railways, health, and petroleum.

As part of the 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Jammu' campaign, he also met with recipients of various programs and handed over appointment letters to 1,500 recently hired government officers in the state.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the rail service between Sangaldan and Baramulla stations as well as the first electric train in the valley during the ceremony. Notably, the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan segment was put into service because it uses Ballast Less Track (BLT) throughout, giving passengers a more enjoyable ride.

In his address to the gathering, PM Modi, expressed unwavering confidence in the potential of Jammu and Kashmir, vowing to fulfill the dreams of the people with the vision of 'Viksit Jammu and Kashmir'.

“I have full faith in you and we will make 'Viksit Jammu and Kashmir.' Your dreams of 70 years will be fulfilled by Modi in the coming years,” he said.

Modi also inaugurated AIIMS Jammu, built at a cost of more than US$ 200K (Rs 1,660 crore), on a land of 227 acres in Jammu's Vijaypur. In addition to its 720 beds, the state-of-the-art hospital has a medical college with 125 seats, an AYUSH Block with 30 beds, a nursing college with 60 seats, 20 modular operation theaters, an emergency and trauma unit, an intensive care unit, and many other facilities.

PM Modi stated that Jammu & Kashmir is now heading toward overall development, citing the now-repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as the primary obstacle to the region's development. “Because of the abrogation of Article 370, I have asked people to help BJP win 370 seats and NDA win 400 seats in elections,” he said.

“I have heard that a film on Article 370 is going to be released this week... It is a good thing as it will help people in getting correct information,” he added.
