President Donald Trump is expected to visit India later this year to attend the fifth Quad leaders’ summit, a key platform for dialogue between the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. The Quad, which seeks to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, has gained significant strategic importance in recent years.

Ahead of the formal announcement, Quad foreign ministers, including Jaishankar, convened in Washington DC on Sunday to set the stage for the leaders’ summit. Jaishankar met with his Japanese and Australian counterparts, Foreign Ministers Takeshi Iwaya and Penny Wong, respectively, to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues.

With President Trump signaling a strong focus on Asia, reports suggest that his administration aims to bolster strategic and economic ties with Quad nations. Trump’s India visit will also reportedly include high-level discussions on trade and defense cooperation.

As Trump begins his second term, India is preparing for robust bilateral trade talks amid expectations of new tariffs on Indian goods. The visit is likely to underscore the growing importance of the India-US partnership in tackling global challenges and ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
