Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin an official visit to Poland and Ukraine on Aug. 21. This visit is significant as he will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Poland in 45 years. This will coincide with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The last Indian Prime Minister to visit Poland was Morarji Desai in 1979. The PM posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) saying:
"Leaving for Warsaw. This visit to Poland comes at a special time- when we are marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between our nations. India cherishes the deep-rooted friendship with Poland. This is further cemented by a commitment to democracy and pluralism," PM Modi said in a social media post.

I will hold talks…
During the PM's two-day visit from Aug. 21-22, the focus will be on strengthening bilateral relations. The discussions are expected to cover a broad spectrum of topics, including strategic partnerships, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized the historical ties between India and Poland and recalled Poland's crucial support during Operation Ganga in 2022. The operation helped evacuate over 4,000 Indian students from Ukraine. This act of solidarity, coupled with the historical refuge India provided to over 6,000 Polish women and children during World War II, is viewed as foundations of the strong relationship between the two nations.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on Aug. 23, where he will hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
