The LA28 organising committee announced on April 15 that cricket at the 2028 Olympics will be played at a temporary, purpose-built venue within the historic Pomona Fairgrounds, officially known as Fairplex.
The Fairgrounds, a 500-acre event complex in Southern California, has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922 and serves year-round as a hub for concerts, trade shows, and sports events.

For the 2028 Games, it will be reimagined to accommodate the fast-paced T20 format, with six teams in both the men’s and women’s tournaments competing for Olympic gold.
“We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is a significant step towards the preparation for our sport’s return to the Olympics. Although cricket is a hugely popular sport, it will be a fantastic opportunity to expand traditional boundaries when it features in the Olympics in the fast-paced, exciting T20 format that should appeal to new audiences,” International Cricket Council chair Jay Shah said.
“On behalf of the ICC, I want to express my gratitude to LA28 and the International Olympic Committee for their support and look forward to collaborating with them and ICC Members in preparing for LA28 and making cricket a huge success there,” Shah added.
The temporary venue will be custom-designed to meet international cricket standards, accommodating players, officials, and thousands of fans. Its selection is part of a broader strategy to utilise existing and temporary infrastructure to ensure sustainability and community involvement across Southern California.
“The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard with the most exciting sports staged at some of the world’s top-tier existing stadiums and arenas, famous beaches and purpose-built temporary structures,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement.
Cricket, returning to the Olympics after 128 years, joins four other new sports at LA 2028, including baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash.
