Prem Rawat Foundation aids flood-affected Durban

TPRF has partnered with the local non-profit Likhon iThemba.

The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF), a non-profit established by Indian American philanthropist Prem Rawat, has partnered with Likhon iThemba, a local nonprofit organization named after the Zulu phrase meaning ‘there is hope,’ to aid the flood-affected underprivileged communities in Durban, South Africa in relief and recovery efforts.

In their efforts to aid the recovery process, TPRF allocated US$48,000 in grants to five local organizations, including Likhon iThemba. According to a release the funding aimed to address immediate needs such as food, water, and shelter for the affected individuals.

However, the floods exacerbated existing local challenges, necessitating further support. To assist in this endeavour, TPRF has awarded an additional grant of US$8,000 to Likhon iThemba. The funds will specifically contribute to the expansion of the Gogo Kitchen project, which focuses on providing nutritious meals to children who frequently experience malnutrition and are affected by HIV.

With this funding, the program will be able to provide nutritious meals to 120 children on a more frequent basis, expanding from three meals per week to five to seven meals per week. “We cannot fully express our gratitude to The Prem Rawat Foundation for the support and care for our program. We are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of donors who answer the call to give again and again. We are so excited that now we can grow our daily reach thanks to your support, providing the children with more nutritious meals and a safe place,” said Leanne Lorrance, Likhon iThemba director.

“I am personally touched by this Gogo program and I’m struck by how similar it is to the Food for People program,” said Marcia Leitner, TPRF Executive Director. “Thank you to all of the TPRF donors who make meaningful work like this possible. You are touching hearts and changing lives.” TPRF's Food for People program has provided over 5.2 million meals and crisis relief in India, Nepal, and Ghana, empowering those in critical need.
