Presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump almost tied: Pew survey
Harris’ support is now on par with Trump's, with 62 percent of her supporters expressing strong backing, closely matching the 64 percent of Trump supporters who feel the same about him.

Fueled by increasing Democratic enthusiasm, Vice President Kamala Harris has pulled into a virtual tie with former President Donald Trump in the presidential race according to a Pew survey.
Among registered voters nationwide, 46 percent say they would support Vice President Kamala Harris if the election were held today, while 45 percent favor former President Donald Trump, and 7 percent back Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Just a month ago, Trump had a 4-point lead over Joe Biden (44 percent to 40 percent), who withdrew from the presidential race on July 21.
Most of Harris’ gains have come at the expense of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose support has dropped significantly from 15 percent to 7 percent over the past month. However, the survey also indicates that Harris has successfully energized Democratic voters.
Harris’ support is now on par with Trump's, with 62 percent of her supporters expressing strong backing. It closely matches the 64 percent of Trump supporters who feel the same about him.
This marks a significant shift from last month when only 43 percent of Biden's supporters expressed strong support, compared to 63 percent of Trump’s supporters who strongly backed the former president.
Supporters of both candidates are highly motivated to vote this fall, especially in light of recent dramatic events like Biden's withdrawal from the race and the assassination attempt on Trump.
Currently, 70 percent of Harris supporters report being "extremely motivated" to vote, a big increase from the 63 percent of Biden supporters who felt the same in early July when he was still in the race. Similarly, 72 percent of Trump supporters are now extremely motivated, up from 63 percent last month.
Harris is outperforming Biden across most demographic groups. Although the voting patterns among different demographics are similar to those seen in the Biden-Trump matchup from July, she has made notable gains among traditionally Democratic-leaning groups.
Her support among voters under 50 is 9 percentage points higher than Biden's was in July. Kamala’s backing among Black, Asian, and Hispanic voters has increased by at least 10 points compared to Biden's.
The majority of Democrats are pleased with Harris as the Democratic candidate, with nearly nine-in-ten Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters (88 percent) expressing satisfaction with her candidacy. Almost half (48 percent) of these voters report being very happy that Harris is the party's nominee for the upcoming presidential election, the Pew survey stated.
This insight comes from a recent Pew Research Center survey conducted from Aug. 5-11, involving 9,201 U.S. adults, including 7,569 registered voters.
