Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ documentary ‘Born Hungry’, which was produced by Purple Pebble Pictures and Barry Avrich’s Melbar Entertainment Group, has been acquired by Tribeca Films, Variety reported.
‘Born Hungry’ is an extraordinary life story of celebrity chef Sash Simpson who is the owner of the Toronto restaurant Sash. The documentary follows Simpson’s journey, from abandonment as a young boy in India where he survived by eating from garbage bins on the streets of Chennai to his adoption by a Canadian couple, and his rise to culinary prominence. The documentary also highlights the chef’s emotional return to India as he attempts to locate his birth family.

Priyanka took to her Instagram to share her excitement about ‘Born Hungry’ being taken up by Tribeca Films.
The Baywatch actress wrote “So proud of this story and this film! We’re thrilled that Tribeca Films has acquired #BornHungry, and it will be available to stream on Prime video and iTunes starting Apr. 8th! Congratulations Team.”

‘Born Hungry’ premiered at the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival and screened at Toronto’s Hot Docs Film Festival. Filmmakers have lauded the documentary’s raw, true and important story that spotlights identity and cultural heritage. ‘Born Hungry’ is slated for a theatrical release on Apr. 8. It will also be available on Prime Video and iTunes on the same date.
