Punjabi Diaspora demands bus services and help center at Amritsar airport
The Amritsar airport, which serves over 10,000 passengers daily, including a large Punjabi diaspora, lacks basic amenities offered at other major airports in the region.

The FlyAmritsar Initiative, an advocacy group dedicated to enhancing air connectivity for Amritsar, has criticized the Punjab Government for neglecting the state’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport while favoring Delhi Airport.
In a joint statement, FlyAmritsar Global Convener Sameep Singh Gumtala (USA), Anantdeep Singh Dhillon (Canada), Convener North America, and Yogesh Kamra, Convener India, expressed concern over what they described as "discriminatory treatment" towards Amritsar Airport.
The group pointed out that while the Punjab government has launched Volvo luxury bus services from various cities in Punjab to Delhi Airport and established a help center there, no similar services or facilities have been provided for Amritsar Airport, which serves over 10,000 passengers daily, including a large Punjabi diaspora.
“It is very sad and worrying that Amritsar is the only international airport in India where the State government has not arranged a bus service. This neglect is not only a disservice to Amritsar but also to the entire state of Punjab,” said the FlyAmritsar Initiative representatives.
They urged the Punjab Government to enhance connectivity to Amritsar by introducing bus services and setting up a help center at the airport, making it easier for passengers to reach their destinations and encouraging increased flight traffic.
Dhillon added that despite the frequent announcements of new flights, state politicians have failed to address the lack of bus services or other essential facilities at Amritsar Airport. "The government and leaders often blame the central government for lack of flight operations from the airport, but the state government does not take any action regarding providing bus service or other facilities to the airport, even though these issues fall under the purview of the Punjab government," he stated.
Amritsar Airport currently handles 65 to 70 domestic and international flights daily, connecting the city with major destinations like London, Birmingham, Milan, Rome, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Sharjah, and Dubai.
