The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the State of Qatar announced an agreement between Israel and Palestinian sides for a 2-day extension to the humanitarian pause in Gaza. The official spokesperson for the MOFA, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari confirmed the news on X.
“The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian pause for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip,” he shared in a post on November 27.
An official MOFA release confirmed that the additional two-day pause was agreed upon the same conditions as the initial agreement of the 4-day pause, with the help of joint mediation between the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the U.S.
Shedding light on the implementations of commitments fulfilled within the framework of the initial agreement regarding the fourth day of the pause, the spokesperson confirmed that 33 Palestinian detainees were released in exchange for 11 Israeli hostages from Gaza.
He said that the list of those released from Israeli jails included 30 minors and three women, while the list of Israeli hostages released from Gaza included three French nationals, two German nationals, and six Argentine nationals.
The total number of hostages released by Hamas was 69 – 50 were released as part of the agreement terms, and 19 were released after separate negotiations -- while Israel released 150 detainees who are women and children, all within the commitments of the first four days of the humanitarian pause.
Israel’s offensive against Gaza began after Hamas’s attack on October 7. Aside from thousands of civilian lives lost, a report finds “over 234,000 housing units have been damaged and more than 46,000 homes have been completely destroyed, amounting to over 60% of the total housing stock.”
