R Madhavan appointed president of FTII Society

He will be succeeding Shekhar Kapur in this role.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has appointed national award-winning actor R Madhavan as the president of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairperson of the governing council. Madhavan takes over this role from Shekhar Kapur.

“Heartiest congratulations to @ActorMadhavan on being nominated as president of @FTIIOfficial and chairman of the governing council. I’m sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes and take it to a higher level. My best wishes to you” said Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur in a post on X.

The actor responded to the announcement by stating, “Thank you so very much for the honour and kind wishes @ianuragthakur. I will do my very best to live up to all the expectations.”

Known for his roles in blockbuster films like '3 Idiots,' 'Tanu Weds Manu,' and 'Rang De Basanti’, Madhavan recently made his directorial debut with 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,' a biopic on former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, which received critical acclaim and won the Best Feature Film Award at the 69th National Awards. He not only directed but also acted in and co-wrote the film alongside Anant Mahadevan and Rahul Pandey.

The FTII, located in Pune, India, operates under the jurisdiction of the Central Government's Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Since its establishment in 1960, FTII has been a prestigious institution offering various courses in fields such as film editing, direction, cinematography, audiography, acting, art direction, and computer graphics and animation.
