Supernatural thriller ‘Shaitaan,’ which released worldwide in cinemas on March 8, has Indian actor R Madhavan playing the role of an antagonist.
Directed by Vikas Bahl, the film's plot revolves around black magic and is a journey into the supernatural, with Madhavan taking the role of ‘Shaitaan’ (Devil)
The film, presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, has an impressive cast including Ajay Devgn and Jyothika, besides antagonist R Madhavan.
Interestingly, Madhavan strayed away from his typical romantic hero roles and is sure to astonish viewers with his portrayal of evil incarnate, the makers said in a statement.
His character, Shaitaan, is a manifestation of the mean side within all of us, as the actor explained, “It’s about how we like to take advantage if given the chance or opportunity and think that others won’t know. It’s that weakness in us that turns into evil. That’s what Shaitaan means to me.”
The actor further delved into his experience, expressing both excitement and unease about embodying this dark persona. “For me to be him and explore this dark side of mine was super exciting, and I believe audiences will be somewhat unnerved and shocked by how the evilness is portrayed,” Madhavan shared.
Madhavan’s journey into the role of a villain was unexpected, he recounted, “I was quite stunned, and I was amazed that Ajay sir would want to give that role to me. I see the intelligence behind it now.”
While the actor admitted to feeling nervous, he emphasized the unpredictability of his role, hoping that audiences would find the film both entertaining and unsettling.
