Rajinikanth, Lokesh Kanagaraj team up for action thriller ‘Thalaivar 171’

Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures has announced another project with superstar Rajinikanth in an action thriller dubbed Thalaivar 171 under Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction. This follows Sun Pictures-backed Jailer's success starring actor Rajinikanth, Yogi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
According to a post shared by Sun Pictures on its Twitter handle, Anirudh Ravichander is looped in as the music director of Thalaivar 171; along with stunt choreographer duo Anbu-Arivu.
Director Kanagaraj reshared the post with a caption expressing his excitement to team up with actor Rajinikanth for the latter’s 171st film and Sun Pictures. Music director Ravichander also took to Twitter.
Actor Rajinikanth last appeared in Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar which also featured special cameos from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff. The movie grossed over $72 million (₹600 crores) at the worldwide box office. A report by Hindustan Times revealed that Sun Pictures distributed gold coins to all those associated with the film or those who contributed to the film's success.
Actor Rajnikanth, director Nelson Dilipkumar and music director Anirudh Ravichander were gifted luxury cars. Maran gifted a brand new BMW x7 to Rajnikanth; a Porsche car to director Nelson Dilipkumar and another to music director Anirudh Ravichander. The director and actor also received a cheque from Maran celebrating the success of the film.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth will next shoot for the film directed by Jai Bhim fame TJ Gnanavel; and Lokesh Kanagaraj has Leo, Kaithi 2, and Vikram 2 in the pipeline. Actor Vijay starring Leo is slated to release in October this year. The film features actors Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan and Mysskin.
