Ramesh Agarwal recognized for Aerospace innovation
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers will honor him with an award during their conference in May.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has honored Indian American engineer Ramesh Agarwal with the 2025 John J. Montgomery Award for Distinguished Innovation in Aerospace.
The Montgomery Award acknowledges engineers who have significantly advanced the aerospace industry, including areas such as propulsion, materials, and flight control. Recipients are selected for their originality, innovation, and impact on the field.

Agarwal, the William Palm Professor of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, has made groundbreaking contributions to computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computational magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), computational aeroacoustics, and hypersonic flows. His research has advanced multidisciplinary design, optimization, and aerospace engineering applications.
Before joining Washington University in 2001, Agarwal served as chair of the aerospace engineering department at Wichita State University from 1994 to 1996. He later became the executive director of the National Institute for Aviation Research, a position he held from 1996 to 2001. He has also worked at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories, NASA Ames Research Center, and Rao and Associates.
Agarwal has authored or coauthored over 600 publications and four books in aerospace, energy, and environmental engineering. He serves on the editorial boards of more than 20 academic journals and is a Fellow of 32 professional societies.
He will receive the award during the ASME Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials (SSDM) Conference, scheduled for May 5-7, 2025 in Houston.
