RANA Deepmahotsav raises funds and honors community leaders

Samin Sharma donated US $100,000 to Jaipur Foot USA, with US$110,000 in additional contributions and pledges for a Jodhpur project.

The 25th Annual Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA) celebrated Deepmahotsav on Long Island recently. The event marking the celebration of Rajasthani Culture was attended by many community leaders. 

Varun Jeph, Deputy Consul General of India in New York, attended the event as the chief guest, with B.L. Soni, former director general of Rajasthan’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), as the special guest.

A highlight of the evening was a US$100,000 donation from Dr. Samin Sharma, a cardiologist, for Jaipur Foot USA. Additional contributions included US$60,000 from Chandra and KK Mehta; and US$50,000 from Rajeev Daga, bringing the total to US$110,000 in support of Jaipur Foot USA and Apna Ghar.

Chandra and KK Mehta further demonstrated their dedication to social causes by pledging $500,000 for a major charity project in Jodhpur, India.

Dr. Rohit Dandiya and his wife, Bharti Dandiya, were recognized for their outstanding philanthropy. Their efforts include funding a sports complex at SMS Medical College in Jaipur with donations of nearly $500,000 and recently pledging US$250,000 to a Jain organization in Jaipur.

Dr. Mukul Arya was honored for his work in medicine, while young entrepreneurs Jugal Kishore Ladda and Akhil Jain were praised for their remarkable business achievements.

Dr. Raj Bansal, a supporter of social causes, praised Prem Bhandari for his unwavering efforts in humanitarian work. He pledged between US$1 and US$500,000 to support the repatriation of mortal remains to India. Prem Bhandari recently joined Team Aid as chief advisor, where he helps families in difficult times.

Bansal, known for building a reading hall at SMS Medical College in Jaipur in honor of his late parents, has already donated nearly US$500,000 to the institution.

Prem Bhandari Advocates for Development and Charity

In an interview with New India Abroad, Prem Bhandari, chairman of Jaipur Foot USA, spoke about RANA’s dedication to charity, mentioning key initiatives like Jaipur Foot, Apna Ghar, and Akshaya Patra.

He emphasized “RANA is deeply engaged in numerous projects, including Jaipur Foot, Apna Ghar, Akshaya Patra, and many more,” he said. “Our goal is to expand our efforts further, contributing not just to social causes but also to the economic development of Rajasthan.”

Reflecting on India’s vision for 2047, Bhandari expressed confidence that with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, every state, including Rajasthan, would reach its full potential. 

“This vision can only be realized if every state in the country achieves its full potential. I am confident this will happen under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” commented Bhandari.

He reiterated RANA’s commitment to both cultural preservation and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
