Kudos to Lewis for weighing in on the long arm of the diversity initiatives. American Hindus welcomed Trump’s pushback against DEI with great relief. Despite the well-intentioned principles of ‘diversity, inclusion and equality,’ Hindus were targeted by the deliberate framing of CA SB 403, a duplicitous bill. It was introduced in February 2023 by Senator Wahab and partnered by Equality Labs, a veiled social justice organization that promotes negative stereotypes about Hindus.* (*https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGQ4r4ElLyQ/)
To underscore, the intent of the bill was to stigmatize all Hindus with a broad brush. It was vetoed by Governor Newsom for the following reasons: 1) Duplicitous bill would lead to the unconstitutional denial of equal rights to a group; 2) Unruh Act already protects against caste discrimination; 3) Stereotyped Hindus as oppressors without evidence; and 4) Hindus would be targeted with frivolous lawsuits by their last names. Sundar Iyer was victimized and accused of caste discrimination. **
