Reliance appoints next-gen to board; Nita Ambani steps down
The Ambani children, were only involved at operating business and management levels and were not listed as board members of the company until now.

Reliance Industries, the Indian conglomerate owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, following its board meeting on August 28, 2023, has announced that the appointment of Ambani’s three children Isha M Ambani, Akash M Ambani and Anant M Ambani has been put forward to the shareholders for their approval.
According to a official statement by the company, the trio will serve as non-executive board members on being approved by the shareholders. The company also announced that Nita Ambani stepped down from her position on the board to continue to serve as chairperson of Reliance Foundation. While accepting Nita’s resignation from the board, the members appreciated her for her leadership of Reliance Foundation (RF) as its founder chairperson. "Over the years, RF has made considerable progress in its mission of nurturing and empowering marginalised and under-resourced communities in India,” the board said.
As per the release, Nita resigned from the board “to focus even more on strengthening Reliance Foundation as it embarks on a mission to achieve even greater societal transformation by undertaking a host of new programmes and initiatives.” As the chairperson of Reliance Foundation, she will attend all board meetings of Reliance Industries as a permanent invitee to the board.
Meet the Next-gen Ambanis
Isha is part of the executive leadership teams as a member of the board at Reliance Retail Venture Ltd, Reliance Jio and Reliance Foundation (RF), Reliance Foundation Institution of Education and Research, and Dhirubhai Ambani International School. She graduated from Yale University with a double major in Psychology and South Asian Studies as well as an MBA from Stanford University.
Akash has served as the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) since June 2022. He earned a bachelor’s in economics from Brown University, US. He is also a member of the President’s Leadership Council of Brown University.
Anant has served as a board member of Jio Platforms Limited since March 2020; Reliance Retail Ventures Limited since May 2022; Reliance New Energy Ltd; Reliance New Solar Energy Ltd since June 2021; and Reliance Foundation since September 2022. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University, US.
