Indian American Congressman Ami Bera (CA-06), announced that his office has recovered more than $20 million in federal benefits for Sacramento County residents since he assumed office in 2013.
The funds were secured through the efforts of his casework team, which has successfully resolved over 32,000 cases, assisting constituents with backlogged veterans' benefits, delayed tax refunds, and Social Security and Medicare payment issues.

"I'm proud to announce that my office has helped recover more than $20 million in federal benefits owed to hardworking Sacramento County residents," Bera said in a statement. "In these uncertain times, my office stands ready to support the people of Sacramento County, whether it be expediting stalled tax refunds, addressing delays in Medicare and Social Security payments for seniors, or assisting veterans with backlogged VA benefits."

In June 2018, Bera’s office had assisted over 10,000 constituents and returned more than $5.1 million to local taxpayers. By September 2024, the total recovered amount had surpassed $19 million, with nearly 30,000 cases resolved, a release noted
