Rep. Grace Meng secures $850,000 Federal grant for South Asian Services Expansion in Queens
The fund will enable SACSS to acquire a neighboring property, allowing the organization to expand its support services.

U.S. Representative Grace Meng (D-Queens), New York’s senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced today the allocation of $850,000 in federal funds to the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) in Flushing, New York.
The funding will support the acquisition of an additional building to expand SACSS’s programs and services at its headquarters, located at 143-02 45th Avenue.
Founded in 2000, SACSS focuses on empowering and integrating underserved South Asians and other immigrants into New York’s economic and civic life. The organization offers a variety of essential services, including healthcare and public benefits access, job training, English classes, youth leadership programs, senior citizen support, civic engagement initiatives, a legal clinic, and a food pantry.
The federal fund will enable SACSS to acquire a neighboring property, allowing the organization to expand its support services. “SACSS does tremendous work in lifting up and empowering the South Asian community, especially new immigrants, and this money will help its team do an even better job in providing resources to those who need them,” said Congresswoman Meng. “I’m proud to continue bringing back critical funding to Queens, and I am excited to obtain this money that will benefit SACSS for many years to come.”
SACSS Founder and Executive Director Sudha Acharya expressed gratitude for the funding. “We are incredibly grateful to Congresswoman Grace Meng for this generous funding which will enable SACSS to purchase the rental property next door,” she said. “This support will allow us to continue our Workforce Development Training Program, establish a resource center, and create a community gardening space for our members. Thank you for your support of our mission and for helping us make a positive impact in the community.”
