Describing Rajkumar as "the future of the Democratic Party in New York," Khanna highlighted her advocacy for women's rights, healthcare, and immigrant communities. He noted her leadership in passing landmark laws, establishing New York State's first-ever Asian American and Pacific Islander Commission, and the Diwali school holiday.
ENDORSED! Thank you Congressman @RoKhanna for your powerful endorsement! Ro is a leading member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. "As a leading member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, I am proud to endorse Jenifer for Public Advocate because she gets progressive things done,” Khanna said.
Rajkumar expressed gratitude for Khanna's endorsement, emphasizing their shared commitment to effective governance. She remarked, "We share a belief in cutting through the noise & division to make government work—and that’s exactly what I’ll do as your next Public Advocate."
This endorsement adds to Rajkumar's growing support base, which includes backing from Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar and several New York City leaders across five boroughs. Her campaign has also reportedly set fundraising records, with her having a million dollars more cash on hand than incumbent Jumaane Williams.
Rajkumar, a civil rights attorney and professor, made history as the first South Asian-American woman elected to state office in New York. She has served as the Assembly Member for District 38 since 2021, representing parts of Queens. Her legislative achievements include securing human rights protections for workers and championing the recognition of Diwali as a school holiday in New York City.
