Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi delivered remarks on the main stage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) 2024 on Aug.23, just hours before Vice President Kamala Harris created history as the first Indian-American to receive the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

In his address, Rep. Krishnamoorthi, the first South Asian to ever lead a Congressional Committee as the Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), emphasized the critical need for unity in the face of global challenges.

Highlighting the strategic rivalry with China, the Democrat from Illinois warned, "China knows the only way they'll beat America is if we beat ourselves."

He added, "They want to see Donald Trump across the bargaining table because he'll start endless trade wars that raise prices for Americans. But most of all, Trump will pit Americans against Americans. And that's what China wants – for us to fight amongst ourselves."

Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s speech underscored the importance of solidarity, particularly in the context of the upcoming election. "When we fight as one country, we win," he declared, emphasizing that Vice President Harris embodies this spirit of unity.

"Kamala Harris knows we fight best not as American against American, but as one team. Which is why, when Kamala Harris wins in November, we win,” he added.

Interestingly, Congressman Krishnamoorthi, like Vice President Harris, has roots in Tamil Nadu, India, and his parents, who hail from the same state, were present at the United Center in Chicago to witness their son’s historic speech.
