Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, hailed the U.S. Supreme Court's 9-0 decision to uphold the TikTok Divestiture Law as a pivotal victory for national security.

The Court’s ruling affirmed the constitutionality of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, a bipartisan effort co-authored by Krishnamoorthi. As a result the app will required to undergo divestiture from ByteDance, in order to continue operating in the U.S. without facing a potential ban.

“Today, every single Justice of the United States Supreme Court reached the same conclusion: forcing ByteDance to divest is constitutional,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi stated. “The Supreme Court's unanimous judgment ensures these harms to U.S. national security will finally be resolved.”

Krishnamoorthi emphasized the bipartisan foundation of the legislation, noting its unanimous 50-0 approval in Committee and widespread support in Congress. He also pointed to the sustained efforts of two administrations in addressing the risks posed by ByteDance's control over TikTok.

“Two successive Presidents have now sought to address the grave national security harms posed by ByteDance ownership,” Krishnamoorthi said. “ByteDance’s legal options have now been exhausted; it’s time to divest so Americans can enjoy TikTok without threats to our security.”
