Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi reiterated his call for the immediate dismissal of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following revelations of a significant security breach involving the unauthorized use of the Signal messaging app within the Pentagon.

A senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Krishnamoorthi’s demand comes after reports that Secretary Hegseth allegedly installed an unsecured internet line—referred to as a “dirty line”—in his Pentagon office to bypass established security protocols.

The unsecured connection enabled Hegseth to use Signal on a personal computer to transmit sensitive information, including details about a planned military operation in Yemen, over an unclassified platform.

“The report that Secretary Hegseth deliberately installed an unsecured internet line in his office to bypass Pentagon safeguards and use Signal to transmit sensitive information is yet another reckless breach of our national security that demands his immediate firing,” Krishnamoorthi said.

“His disregard for security protocols has repeatedly exposed classified information, jeopardized military operations, and endangered service members. His continued presence is a direct threat to the safety of our troops and the security of our nation,” he added.

The Pentagon’s inspector general has launched a review into Hegseth’s use of Signal, focusing on the transmission of plans for the Houthi strike as well as broader concerns over the app’s vulnerabilities. This follows a Pentagon-wide advisory warning officials against using Signal due to security risks, including exploitation by Russian hacking groups targeting its "linked devices" feature.

The breach has triggered significant internal turmoil, leading to the dismissal of three senior aides and the resignation of Hegseth’s chief of staff, Joe Kasper. Despite growing criticism, Secretary Hegseth has defended his actions and continues to serve, with President Trump expressing support for him.

Krishnamoorthi has previously voiced concerns about Hegseth’s handling of classified information, warning that repeated lapses pose a serious risk to U.S. national security.
