Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has called on President Donald Trump to take immediate action to address rising grocery prices, citing a significant increase in the cost of essential food items such as eggs since his inauguration.

In a letter dated Feb.6, Krishnamoorthi highlighted the nearly 15 percent rise in egg prices, referencing data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "The wholesale cost of a dozen eggs has increased from $6.59 on the day of your inauguration to $7.53, marking a nearly 15 percent increase in mere weeks," he wrote, calling it "a true crisis for everyday Americans whose dollars will no longer stretch as far."

Krishnamoorthi also pointed to avian flu outbreaks and food recalls related to E. coli, listeria, and salmonella as primary drivers of price increases, criticizing the administration’s inaction. "We have not yet seen any attempt to substantively address these serious issues," he stated.

The Illinois Democrat further noted that while Trump has issued 53 executive orders since taking office, none have focused on tackling food affordability or addressing food safety concerns. He urged the president to issue an executive order to improve coordination between federal agencies and state governments in order to mitigate these challenges.

The White House has yet to respond to Krishnamoorthi’s request.
