Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi receives 2024 Ruth Rothstein Award
The Award is presented annually to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in health care service throughout Cook County.

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) was honored with the 2024 Ruth Rothstein Award for Excellence by the Cook County Health Foundation during its annual gala.
The award, presented by Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, recognizes Krishnamoorthi’s contributions to improving health care access across Cook County.
In his acceptance speech, Krishnamoorthi expressed his commitment to making health care more accessible and affordable, following in Ruth Rothstein’s footsteps, the award's namesake and former chief of the Cook County Department of Public Health.
“It is an honor to receive an award that bears Ruth’s name, and I look forward to continuing my work with the Cook County Health Foundation and President Toni Preckwinkle to fully realize Ruth’s vision of a healthier Cook County for all its residents,” Krishnamoorthi said.
“From taking on Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to lower drug prices nationally to securing $2 million for Cook County Public Health to build an urgent care facility in Arlington Heights, I am committed to doing just that, using my position in Congress to create positive health care change for Illinoisans.,” he further added.
Krishnamoorthi has been an advocate for various health care initiatives at both the national and local levels. He supported federal efforts to restore reproductive rights after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and has championed community health care projects throughout Cook County.
His efforts include securing $2 million in federal funding to help complete an urgent care facility in Arlington Heights.The Cook County Health Foundation praised Krishnamoorthi’s leadership, highlighting his ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for residents.
