Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) announced on Dec.5 his intention to collaborate with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to reduce government waste, particularly in defense spending.
Khanna’s proposal, shared on X, received positive responses from Musk and Ramaswamy, underscoring bipartisan interest in tackling inefficiencies.
"I'm ready to work with @doge, @elonmusk, and @VivekGRamaswamy to slash waste," Khanna wrote. "I have a track record of doing so. I led the charge to get TransDigm to refund $16 million after investigative reporting exposed price-gouging. Let's look to the Truman Committee and ensure Americans get their money's worth with DOD spending."
Musk responded to Khanna’s outreach with a succinct “Much appreciated,” while Ramaswamy expressed gratitude, writing, “Thank you for keeping an open mind, @RoKhanna!”
The announcement coincided with Musk and Ramaswamy’s scheduled visit to Capitol Hill, where they were set to meet with Republican lawmakers in both chambers of Congress to discuss strategies for improving government efficiency and reducing wasteful spending.
Khanna later highlighted the public interest in the issue, noting the significant engagement his post received online. "X isn't always real life," he wrote, "but 23 million-plus views is the most any post of mine has had in 9 years in Congress. Millions of Americans want us to work with @DOGE to cut wasteful spending. I am for spending money to improve people's lives, not wasting money. It's common sense."
While Khanna is one of the first Democrats to express explicit interest in DOGE, he is not alone. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) has also joined the DOGE Caucus, a group dedicated to supporting the Department of Government Efficiency.
