US Representative Thanedar raised a critical concern on the floor of the House of Representatives regarding the ongoing alleged human rights violations against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.
In a speech delivered on Dec. 11, Thanedar highlighted the alleged rise in attacks against Hindus, which he said have persisted since Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan in 1971.
I spoke today with a sense of urgency to bring awareness to the escalating crisis of human rights violations in Bangladesh.

“Whether at home or abroad, we cannot remain silent while innocent people are subjected to unspeakable acts of violence due to their religious beliefs,” Thanedar stated in an X post. He highlighted recent incidents fueling the crisis, such as the arrest of a Hindu priest and the murder of his lawyer. He also condemned the violent mobs that have destroyed Hindu temples and religious icons, stressing that these attacks are aimed at peaceful practitioners of the Hindu faith.
“The time has come for the United States Congress and the US Government to take decisive action,” Thanedar declared. “Whether through humanitarian aid, economic sanctions, or any other means at our disposal, we must use every tool available to put an end to these atrocities.”
