Dear editor,
On one hand, I applaud U.S. policies that welcome students from diverse nationalities. The country has long been recognized as a global educational hub, attracting millions of students who aspire to study at its world-renowned universities. This openness and commitment to academic excellence is truly admirable.
However, recent political changes under the current administration of President Donald Trump, combined with the ongoing tariff crisis, mark a dramatic shift that few could have anticipated. These developments, particularly in relation to immigration and international student policies, raise serious concerns.
My worry centers around reports of student deportations—some involving those without proper documentation, but alarmingly, some affecting legal students as well. This uncertainty is troubling. Students who have been selected and are prepared to join U.S. institutions deserve the assurance of a safe and secure stay for the duration of their studies.
It is my hope that the current administration will offer clear assurances and supportive policies to protect incoming international students over the coming months. Educational institutions and the government must work together to ensure that the United States remains a welcoming and safe destination for students from around the world.
