Republicans launch Congressional Hindu Caucus

The caucus will pursue legislative objectives important to Hindu and Indian Americans as well as US-India bilateral relations

In a significant development for the Hindu American community, a Congressional Hindu Caucus was launched by the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC). Coinciding with Diwali, the launch saw the attendance of over 600 Hindu American leaders from across the United States.

RHC chairman Shalabh “Shalli” Kumar will serve as the caucus policy advisor while House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik (NY) and Congressman Pete Sessions (TX) will serve as co-chairs.

“Today I am so excited to announce the official launch of the Congressional Hindu Caucus in the United States Congress,” Stefanik who was joined by 16 other members of Congress, said.

Speaking at the event, Kumar said, “This will be one of the largest caucuses in the US Congress that would be actively engaged in enacting legislation and passing resolutions important to the Hindu American community.”

According to a release, the caucus will pursue legislative objectives important to Hindu and Indian Americans as well as US-India bilateral relations. It will serve as a bridge between the Hindu-American community and US policymakers and leaders, the release stated.
