Richard R. Verma rejoins Ford Foundation board of trustees

He returns to the organization that works for human welfare after previously serving as a trustee from 2022 to 2023.

The Ford Foundation announced on Apr.21 the election of Richard R. Verma, former U.S. ambassador and former deputy secretary of state for management and resources, to its board of trustees. Verma, who will become Mastercard’s chief administrative officer in May, returns to the Ford Foundation after previously serving as a trustee from 2022 to 2023.

Verma, a distinguished diplomat and lawyer born to Indian immigrant parents in 1968, holds the distinction of having previously been the highest-ranking Indian American in the history of the U.S. State Department. Recently, he served as the United States deputy secretary of state for management and resources. His long career spans senior roles across government, law, diplomacy, and the private sector. Notably, he served as U.S. Ambassador to India from 2015 to 2017, leading one of the largest American diplomatic missions and advancing bilateral cooperation on defense, trade, and clean energy.
