Indian-American high school senior Riti Anumalasetty was named this week’s recipient of the Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau's Youth Citizenship Award.

The Cattaraugus County Youth Citizenship Award is a recognition aimed at honoring high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to community service and volunteerism. This award, presented by the Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau, highlights the contributions of young citizens who not only excel academically but also actively engage in efforts to benefit their communities.

Nominated by her school counselor, Anumalasetty was lauded for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to both her community and education.

Throughout her high school years, Anumalasetty accumulated numerous hours of community service. A member of Scout BSA, she completed her Eagle Scout service project by constructing pathways at the Olean Meditation Center. She also volunteered at Camp Merz and participated in the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Program, contributing over 100 hours of service in one year. Her volunteer work extended to the Warming House, Toys for Tots, and the Genesis House of Olean, among others.

Anumalasetty’s involvement in the Cattaraugus-Allegany “Dream It Do It” program included a three-year internship, where she conducted career research and volunteered at various events. Her dedication to community service also saw her involved with the Olean Area Youth Court, providing alternatives to the juvenile system for first-time offenders.

In addition to her community service, Anumalasetty was actively involved in various extracurricular activities at Olean High School, including the National Honor Society, Zonta Club, Science Club, and DECA. She also excelled academically, earning numerous awards and dual enrollment credits from Jamestown Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and St. Bonaventure University.

Anumalasetty plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
