The University of California, Irvine School of Law has announced Indian-American Judge Roopali Desai as the keynote speaker for the 2025 commencement ceremony on May 9.
Desai, currently serves as the Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Before entering the bench in 2022, she was a partner at Phoenix-based Coppersmith Brockelman, which specializes in civil litigation and election law.

From 2015 to 2017, Desai presided over the Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest's board of directors. She joined the ranks of philanthropist Melinda Gates and Vice President Kamala Harris as one of USA Today's Women of the Year in 2022.
In addition to her position as a judge, Desai also serves as a professor of practice at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. She advises the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Law, Election Litigation Project and is an elected member of the organization.

Among Desai’s many honors are the 2021 Valle del Sol Mom of the Year award and the 2019 and 2021 Arizona Capitol Times Best Political Lawyer titles. She holds a J.D., an M.P.H., and a B.A., all from the University of Arizona.
