Roshibina Devi named Wushu Athlete of the Year

After a month-long public voting period, Indian Naorem Roshibina Devi, a two-time medallist at the Asian Games, was named the International Wushu Federation's (IWUF) female athlete of the year in the sanda category on January 23.

With 93545 votes, 23-year-old Roshibina defeated Wu Xiaowei (46753) of China and Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi (88179) of Iran. She has won a bronze and a silver medal at the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.
The Manipuri, who took home a bronze medal from the World Junior Wushu Championships in 2016, was awardet the Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honor of India.
She had fallen short against Xiaowei in the Hangzhou Asian Games women's 60kg Wushu sanda event final the previous year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Roshibina after she won a Silver Medal in Wushu, Women’s Sanda 60 kg. “She has showcased extraordinary talent and relentless pursuit of excellence. Her discipline and determination are also admirable,” he posted on X.
45 applicants from 23 nations and regions participated in the public voting in a variety of categories following the IWUF Athletes Committee's preliminary assessment, according to the IWUF.
