Sachin Shetty has been appointed to the board of Suffolk-based commercial banking company TowneBank.
It offers an array of business and personal banking solutions to customers, operating about 50 banking offices throughout Hampton Roads, Central Virginia, and Northeastern and Central North Carolina.
Shetty is an executive director for the Center for Secure and Intelligent Critical Systems and a professor in the electrical and computer engineering department at Old Dominion University (ODU). He heads a research team focused on developing and integrating secure and intelligent technologies to ensure safe, reliable, and resilient critical infrastructure.
Prior to joining Old Dominion University, he was an associate professor at Tennessee State University, serving the electrical and computer engineering department. He was also the associate director of the Tennessee Interdisciplinary Graduate Engineering Research Institute and directed the cyber security laboratory at the university.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Shetty was a co-principal investigator in the Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Security Center of Excellence, the Department of Homeland Security National Center of Excellence, the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute (CIRI), and the Department of Energy, Cyber Resilient Energy Delivery Consortium (CREDC).
He has received several accolades, including, the Fulbright Specialist Award, DHS Scientific Leadership Award, and has been inducted into Tennessee State University’s million-dollar club. His laboratory conducts cloud and mobile security research and has received over US $12 million in funding from the National Science Foundation, Air Office of Scientific Research, Air Force Research Lab, Office of Naval Research, Department of Homeland Security, and Boeing.
TowneBank's president and chief executive officer, Billy Foster (William I Billy Foster III) welcomed Shetty to the corporate board of directors, noting, “As part of the board’s commitment to provide governance and oversight for TowneBank and our family of companies, his extensive expertise in cybersecurity and data privacy will make him a key contributor to our risk management and modeling strategies. We look forward to having him on board.”
Shetty completed his PhD in modeling and simulation from Old Dominion University, a master's degree in computer science from the University of Toledo, and a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Mumbai University. He is currently a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia.
