Former Indian Cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as the "God of Cricket," joined the National Cricket League (NCL) ownership group, further advancing the league's mission to popularize cricket in the United States.
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the National Cricket League (NCL) is a professional cricket league featuring a unique, fast-paced format called ‘Sixty Strikes’. The league gained significant attention this year with its inaugural tournament, which began yesterday, Oct 4., and will run until Oct. 14 at the UT Dallas Cricket Stadium.
Often compared to sports icons like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, Tendulkar’s involvement is expected to significantly boost the NCL’s efforts to establish cricket as a major sport in America, according to a media statement.
“Cricket has been my life’s greatest journey, and I am pleased to join the National Cricket League at such an exciting time for the sport in the U.S.,’’ said Tendulkar. “The NCL’s vision to create a platform for world-class cricket while inspiring a new generation of fans to resonate with me. I look forward to being part of this new initiative and witnessing the growth of cricket in the U.S. firsthand.”
NCL chairman Arun Agarwal praised Tendulkar’s influence, likening him to soccer’s Pele and baseball’s Babe Ruth. “His influence in cricket is comparable Pele does in soccer or Babe Ruth in baseball. Sachin’s commitment to the game, along with his global appeal, will be key as we introduce cricket to new audiences in America. His involvement highlights the NCL’s goal to inspire future generations and establish cricket as a major sport in the U.S.,” Agarwal said.
The ongoing tournament will also feature Bollywood superstar Mika Singh and a lineup of cricket legends, including Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, and Vivian Richards.
With partnerships with major broadcasters such as ESPN and Fox Sports, the NCL aims to reach over 2.5 billion viewers worldwide, expanding cricket’s footprint in the U.S.
