The Sacramento Business Journal has recognized Indian American CEO Dinakar Munagala as Innovator of the Year as part of its Sacramento Inno Awards, which recognizes individuals and organizations driving innovation within the Sacramento region.
Munagala serves as the co-founder and CEO of Blaize, a California-based full-stack programmable processor architecture suite and low-code/no-code software platform that enables AI processing solutions for high-performance computing at the network’s edge and in the data center.
“The Sacramento region has a wealth of individuals and organizations at the forefront of driving innovation and moving our economy forward,” said Munagala. “It is an honor to receive this recognition alongside other incredible individuals and companies. I look forward to future discussions about the important role of the Sacramento region in the AI and innovation economy, as well as how the region will benefit from breakthroughs in this new AI technology.”
With over 22 years of experience leading global teams building graphics chips, Munagala has lead Blaize to ship products to multiple customers across automotive and other sectors. Before co-founding Blaize, he spent 12 years at Intel, where he held pivotal roles in graphics processor micro-architecture and design and feature ownership in the mobile and graphics engineering group, as well as with the Intel Centrino platforms.
Apart from his professional commitments, Munagala is also involved in philanthropy. He served in a leadership role in fundraising for CRY (Child Relief and You)/Vibha (Sacramento Action Center), a non-profit that supports educational projects for underprivileged children for a decade and is an active supporter of Kiva & Vittana initiatives, empowering students and entrepreneurs globally to achieve their goals via non-profit micro-finance loans.
Munagala holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree, Electrical and Computer Engineering, from Osmania University, India, and a Master of Science degree, Electrical and Computer Engineering, from Purdue University, USA. He is credited with 5 IP/Patent filings.
During the award ceremony on Nov. 14, Blaize was honored with the title of #1 Most Funded Company after securing $106 million in funding earlier this year. Mugala also participated in a panel discussion focused on the future of AI and innovation in the Sacramento region. The panel featured Shweta Gandhi, CEO of Strived; and Brian Raymond, CEO of Unstructured.
