The Sahebaan UAE family gathering took place at the Amity School grounds in Al Qusais, Dubai, on Feb. 15, bringing together over a thousand members from the Sahebaan community, primarily Urdu-speaking Muslims from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, India. The event served as a platform to reconnect, celebrate achievements, and honor exceptional individuals across various fields.
A highlight of the gathering was the presentation of the prestigious Sahebaan Excellence Awards to Indian community members. The awards were conferred by distinguished figures, including Hidayathulla Abbas, chairman of Hidayat Group, K.S. Nisar Ahmed, businessman, and H.M. Afroz Assadi, Sahebaan UAE director.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Altaf M.S., followed by a recitation of Qirath by Mohammad Faiz and Fazil Rahil Ali. The gathering was anchored by Hisrar Tallani, who flew in from Mangalore to ensure the event’s success.
The Sahebaan Business Excellence Award was presented to Mohammed Akram, founder and chairman of Sitara Group of Companies, in recognition of his contributions to the business sector. The Sahebaan Sports Excellence Award was awarded to Nasir Syed, CMD of CHS Group and DSBK racing company, for his accomplishments in superbike racing.
The Sahebaan Academic Excellence Award was posthumously conferred upon Prof. Muzaffar Assadi, an esteemed academician, with the award accepted by his brother, Sajjad Assadi. Irshad Moodbidri received the Sahebaan Literary Excellence Award for his contributions to literature, with his son accepted on his behalf.
The Sahebaan Community Service Excellence Award was presented to Mohammed Asif and Mrs. Sahara Mohammed Asif for their social service efforts, with their son Ahad accepting the award.
Academic excellence was also recognized, with Sahebaan Merit Awards given to students achieving over 90 percent in their exams, including Faiz Anam, Mohammad Rayaan, and Mohammad Umair Suvaid Khan. Muskan Fatima was honored as the Gulf topper in the commerce stream, achieving 98.6 percent. Other notable students included Juveria Firoz, Siham Akbar Ali, Mohammad Rafaan, and Hiba Altaf Salah.
The event also recognized young sports talents, including Mohammad Aiman, who excelled in the 4x4 100-meter relay, and Mohammad Aiz, associated with the DOFA Football Association.
In tribute to senior community leaders, Hidayathulla Abbas, K.S. Nisar Ahmed, and H.M. Afroz Assadi were honored for their contributions to both the community and India, with speeches from Suhail Kudroli, Althaf Khalife, and Mohammad Samiullah.
The gathering was a celebration of Indian culture, featuring performances of Indian patriotic songs, traditional dance, and a children’s Prince and Princess dress-up competition. A documentary showcasing the history and achievements of the Sahebaan community was also presented.
