Indian-American physician Sameer Patel, who serves as chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been appointed vice president of the Robert H. Ivy Society of Plastic Surgeons for the 2024-2025 term.
In his new role, Patel will lead the program committee, which is tasked with organizing the 71st Annual Scientific Meeting next spring. He will also hold a position as a voting member on the society’s board.
“The Robert H. Ivy Society is a pillar of excellence in promoting high ethical standards of surgical practice and engaging esteemed surgeons in continued education in the field,” said Patel. “Serving as vice president is an incredible honor, and I am eager to play a pivotal role in highlighting the importance of the social, economic, and psychological aspects of this specialty.”
At Fox Chase Cancer Center, Patel is also an associate professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology. He participates in several professional organizations, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Breast Cancer Panel, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Known for his thorough approach to patient care, Patel has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Philadelphia magazine for both 2023 and 2024. In addition to his surgical duties, He conducts research on surgical outcomes for head and neck cancer patients.
His work focuses on maximizing function and improving appearance through advanced, computer-aided, patient-specific surgical planning techniques. He also collects data on breast reconstruction procedures to identify the best options for different patient types, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of reconstructive surgery.
Formed in 1954, the Robert H. Ivy Society is committed to upholding high standards in clinical practice within the field of plastic surgery and fostering medical and surgical research. The society also facilitates the exchange of knowledge related to plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery.
