Santa Clara University awards honorary degree to Jayshree Ullal

She will receive the degree during the June 14 commencement ceremony.

Santa Clara University will award an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree to alumna Jayshree V. Ullal at its 2025 undergraduate commencement ceremony. 

Ullal, CEO and chairperson of Arista Networks, will also deliver the keynote address at the undergraduate commencement ceremony on June 14.

Born in London and raised in New Delhi, Ullal earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San Francisco State University before completing her master’s in engineering management at Santa Clara. Over her distinguished career, she has held leadership roles at AMD, Crescendo Communications, and Cisco Systems—where she was instrumental in growing the Catalyst switching business—before taking the helm at Arista Networks in 2008.

Under Ullal’s leadership, Arista transformed into a multibillion-dollar company, pioneering advancements in cloud networking and completing a successful IPO in 2014. Her accolades include recognition from Fortune, Barron’s, The Economic Times, and the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

A committed advocate for women in tech and philanthropic causes, Ullal co-founded a charitable foundation supporting cancer research and social initiatives in India. She received SCU’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award in 2013.

The undergraduate ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, as part of Santa Clara University’s five commencement events honoring the Class of 2025.
